Hillsboro's Old Stone School Damaged in May 27, 2008 Fire

On the afternoon of May 27, 2008, an accidental kitchen fire caused significant damage to Hillsboro’s landmark building, the Old Stone School, circa 1874. The fire destroyed the kitchen, and damaged much of the room used for meetings which is adjacent to the kitchen, as well as the two bathrooms in the same area. Additionally, damage from the smoke permeated the entire building, including plaster walls and hardwood floors, and some of the historic windows had to be destroyed during the fire fighting process.

View photos, from the day of the fire to when repairs and
renovations were completed. Clean up for all areas of the building except the meeting room, kitchen, and bathrooms, began on June 3. Clean up and repairs throughout the building began the week of June 16. Zurschmeide Contracting has done a wonderful job to repair and restore the Old Stone School.
