Great Independence Day Celebration at Hillsboro's Old Stone School!
![]() |
Hundreds of people joined us for our annual Independence Day Celebration, enjoying games, prizes, face painting, sack races, moon bounce, dinners, live music, dancing, and free ice cream...and an amazing fireworks display! View photos from the celebration!
Our celebration kicked off with Melody Prochazka signing the National Anthem and Boy Scout Troop 961 which presented the American flag and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Live music was performed by Hewn from the Mountain, and the Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers performed on stage while the free ice cream, donated by Dot Shetterly and the Hill Tom Market, was served. The local Ruritans barbequed their delicious chicken for dinners. And, there was not a crumb left from the homemade goodies at the HCA's bake sale!
We had lots of fun activities for kids, including face-painting by Junior Girl Scout Troop #3309 from Hillsboro/Round Hill, a moon bounce, sack races, and games where they had a chance to win prizes. Tickets were also available for a chance to win great prizes donated by local businesses and organizations, including Breaux Vineyards , Doukénie Winery , Grandale Farm Restaurant , Hunt Country Jewelers , Run Rabbit Run Productions , and Stoneybrook Organic Farm . All proceeds from ticket sales for the games and prizes, along with the bake and drink sales, went to the Hillsboro Community Association to continue to preserve and maintain Hillsboro's Old Stone School .
After all the fun, food, and games, we had a brilliant fireworks show to top off the evening!
We thank the local businesses, organizations, and volunteers who contributed to our wonderful celebration! And, thank you to all who joined us to celebrate Independence Day. We hope you had a great time! Remember to come again next year...and bring your friends!
